UN Youth Delegation - Program Overview & Expectations

March 1 - March 5, 2025

Vision

Building on past successful youth delegations, this program is designed to equip high school students with leadership, advocacy, and global policy engagement skills through direct participation in the UN TPNW Conference. Participants will engage in hands-on learning, mentorship, and creative expression to deepen their understanding of disarmament, peacebuilding, and international diplomacy.

Program Components

1. Mentorship & Preparation

  • Pairing: High school students will be mentored by college students from Morehouse College and Georgia State.

  • Weekly Virtual Sessions: Preparation for our advocacy on nuclear disarmament and public speaking at the UN.

🎨 Creative Advocacy Project: Students will collaborate on an art-based advocacy piece that will be showcased at the UN TPNW Conference. The project will serve as a visual and narrative representation of their reflections on nuclear disarmament, peace, and social justice.

  • Workshops & Concept Development: Students will explore different forms of artistic activism, including visual art, spoken word, poetry, digital storytelling, and performance to convey their message.

  • Guided Creation Sessions: Mentored by artists and advocates, students will translate their ideas into a powerful artistic expression that resonates with global audiences.

  • Exhibition & Presentation: Their final pieces will be featured at the Official UN Side Event, offering a unique and impactful way to engage diplomats, policymakers, and fellow activists.

  • Post-UN Community Showcase: After the conference, students can bring their work home to share with local schools and community centers, inspiring continued dialogue and activism.

This approach ensures that the students are not just passive observers but active contributors, using their voices and creativity to make an impact on the world stage.

2. Participation in the UN TPNW Conference

  • Youth Speech: Students will contribute to the formal statement to UN delegates, advocating for peace and nuclear disarmament.

  • Side Event: A student-led interactive session incorporating discussions, personal reflections, and creative expressions around nuclear disarmament.

  • Delegation Meetings: Engagement with UN officials, diplomats, and advocacy groups to gain insights into global governance.

3. Artistic Reflection & Advocacy

  • Art as Activism: Students will create visual art, spoken word, poetry, digital media, and short films to express their reflections on nuclear disarmament.

  • Exhibit & Showcase: Their work will be presented at the Official UN Side Event, demonstrating the intersection of creativity and advocacy.

  • Community Engagement: Upon returning, students can host local exhibitions and discussions to share their experiences and inspire peers.
